Super Rivalry

Another Super Saturday, another shot at taking the NL East lead.

By Chris Joseph

Published on July 17, 2008

If there was ever a day for the Florida Marlins to take control of the NL East, it’s Super Saturday. Mainly because the title of the day is apropos to the play of Hanley Ramirez, whom we’re pretty sure is a native of the planet Krypton. The division-leading Philadelphia Phillies are in town, and it’s time for the Marlins to bust out the industrial-size can of whup-ass. All that’s needed is for the pitching staff to hold off slathering on the Suck ointment before the game, and for Jorge Cantu and Mike Jacobs to help pick up the slack. Add the God of Thunder (Dan Uggla) and his mighty bat of vengeance, and it’s a perfect day for a ballgame.

What can make it even more perfect? Why, free license plates, free towels, and salsa music, of course! After the Fish take care of business, Grammy-nominated salsa singer Jerry Rivera will hit the stage for a postgame concert. Also, the first 5,000 cars will receive a Marlins license plate, and the first 15,000 fans with get a Marlins rally towel. First pitch is set for 3:55 p.m. at Dolphin Stadium.
